Oh Lucky Jim
Saturday, April 24 2004A burst from James Troughton span Warwickshire to victory, but the time lost to the elements prohibited results in the other 2 games.
Cambridge UCCE vs. Warwickshire
392 was always a touch too many for the UCCE side, but they batted valiantly in forcing Warwickshire into the final session before James Troughton was introduced as the 8th bowler.
With career figures of 0-199 from 35 overs, one could hardly expect he'd remove the last 3 men in 14 balls as the Bears wrapped up a 247 run victory.
WARWICKSHIRE 361-6 (Wagh 105, Frost 80*, Bell 54, Brown 46, Trott 44, Savill 3-93)
CAMBRIDGE UCCE 131 (Wagg 3-21)
WARWICKSHIRE 161-2 (Troughton 57*, Knight 47, Hogg 44*)
CAMBRIDGE UCCE 144 (Troughton 3-1)
Loughborough UCCE vs. Gloucestershire
A predictably dull draw here as the County bowlers fought back to bowl the students out for only another 95 runs before they batted the day out, with almost all the batsmen getting a decent hit.
LOUGHBOROUGH UCCE 202 (Wilkinson 49, Lewis 43)
GLOUCESTERSHIRE 228-6 (Hancock 40, Anyon 3-57)
Northamptonshire vs. Durham UCCE
Rain had ruined this game as well, and the students declared overnight, allowing the county batting practise, before a late declaration allowed their opening bowlers a 10 over workout.
DURHAM UCCE 229-8 (Bishop 66, Burnell 49)
NORTHAMPTONSHIRE 244-6 (Bailey 52*, Swann 50, Powell 49)
DURHAM UCCE 22-1
