Shoaib to be investigate re: injury

Monday, April 19 2004

Star Pakistani pace bowler, Shoaib Akhtar is likely to be punished in some form or fashion by the cricketing authorities, pending the results of an investigation into the accuracy of his recent injury claim. Akhtar did not bowl on the third day of the crucial third Test against India due to complaints of a wrist injury and side strain. However, X-rays show no sign of any such injury leading many to the allegation that he faked the injury due to a squabble with captain Inzamam-ul-Haq

Former captain Rashid Latif stated to the media that Shoaib spoke to him and communicated his disapproval at some of Inzamam's field placings to his bowling. The next day Shoaib did not participate in the bowling attack, despite being the most successful bowler to that point. Then, on day four, he batted with apparent ease in smashing 28 runs off 14 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes. A full investigation will be carried out by the PCB on the matter and disciplinary action will be taken where seen fit.
