CC Div 2: Day 3

Monday, April 19 2004

Just 60 overs of play were completed right across England with Glamorgan verse Derbyshire the only game to avoid the typical English weather that struck with vengeance.

Glamorgan vs Derbyshire - Sophia Gardens, Cardiff

Elliott (3*) and Wallace (19*), were the two batsman not out overnight with the Glamorgan second innings just six overs old.

The day began with Derbyshire first to strike as Elliott failed to add anything to his overnight score, with the wicket falling to Welch.

However that was just about as good as it got for the visiting side as Wallace and Hemp set about punishing the bowlers with Wallace in particularly devastating form racing to his 50 in no time.

Hemp was providing great support and the partnership raced past 50 and was looking good, until the introduction of the left-arm fast bowler Dean, somewhat later in the innings than normal, however he made a immediate impact dismissing Hemp with the score on 99.

Powell joined Wallace at the middle and the pair soon found their stride as they dominated the bowling and looked completely untroubled for long periods, and in the process bought the second fifty partnership up in a row.

The next milestone was the big one of the day as Wallace bought up his fourth century of his career but the celebrations were short lived as the re-introduction of Welch a couple of overs later and he had his man clean bowled for a superb 105.

The rest of the day saw Glamorgan forge another huge partnership of 115* between Powell and Maynard who once again looked solid throughout and taking the Glamorgan total through to 277/3 at the end of a shortened day where just 60 overs were possible.

Tomorrow Glamorgan will start the last day with leading by 288 runs with 7 wickets remaining and will have to weight up the options when they arrive at the ground, another 50 or so runs would probley be more than enough for Glamorgan to bowl at with Derbyshire not having the strongest of batting line ups and who only managed a mere 174 in their first innings, however the English weather could play a huge part in the outcome of the match either way.

Glamorgan 185 & 277/3 (66 ov)
Derbyshire 174

Glamorgan lead by 288 runs with 7 wickets remaining

Hampshire vs Durham – Rose Bowl, Southampton

No play was possible at the Rose Bowl today after heavy rain overnight and persistent rain throughout the day

Durham 128 & 201
Hampshire 221 & 13/2 (5 ov)

Hampshire require another 95 runs with 8 wickets remaining
