Gloucestershire vs Kent
Kent are expected to challenge for the championship this year, and they made a good start, reducing Gloucestershire to 140 for 5 in a rain-reduced day. England reject Martin Saggers was immediately among the wickets, with excellent figures of 3 for 18, including a victim with his first ball of the season.


Northants vs Lancashire
The championship favourites made a solid start to the campaign, reaching 306 for 4 with centuries from Sutcliffe and Law. Louw was the pick of the bowlers, with figures of 3 for 42.


Surrey vs Sussex
The champions made a good start to the new season, although Surrey's total of 304 was something of a recovery from 121 for 6. Azhar Mahmood top-scored with 84 and Robin Martin-Jenkins was the most successful bowler with 4 for 59. In reply, Sussex made 75 without loss with Surrey old boy Ian Ward 44*.


Warwickshire vs Middlesex
On rain-affected day, Middlesex made unsteady progress to 115 for 3. Joyce is 36* and Dougie Brown has 2 for 28.
