NUL Division 2
25th April 2004

Most of the NUL Division 2 games were one-sided affairs. The exception was at The Riverside, where Durham’s total of 200 looked inadequate until Nottinghamshire steadily lost wickets against some accurate bowling from the home side. They eventually fell 26 runs short, the crucial wicket probably being the run-out of Pietersen who was looking well set on 23.

Elsewhere, Middlesex batted feebly against Akram, Martin-Jenkins, Lewry and Innes. Their bowlers didn’t fare much better, and Sussex romped home with 15 overs to spare. Somerset’s total of 278 was far too many for Derbyshire, who look set for another dismal season. But the worst performance of the day surely came from Yorkshire, who, having been set a challenging target of 258 by Leicestershire lost a flurry of early wickets and capitulated for 112.

Durham 200 for 7 (North 53, Pratt 42)
Nottinghamshire 174 (Davies 3 for 16, Breese 3 for 37)
Durham won by 26 runs

Middlesex 140 (Joyce 48, Lewry 3 for 26)
Sussex 143 for 2 (Ward 56*, Prior 70)
Sussex won by 8 wickets

Somerset 278 (Burns 97, Parsons 51)
Derbyshire 169 (McLean 3 for 21)

Leicestershire 257 (Sadler 88, Snape 69, Harvey 3 for 38)
Yorkshire 112 (Cleary 3 for 17, Henderson 5 for 24)
