Warne suffers broken hand

Saturday, June 12 2004

Shane Warne will miss about one month of action, after suffering from a broken hand during an English County Championship match.

Warne was struck on his hand by a Darren Gough delivery while batting, during his county Hampshire's 114-run victory over Essex.

This injury forces Warne to miss rest of Hampshire's fixtures this month, as well as put him in doubt for Australia's two-Test home series against Sri Lanka, scheduled for the first half of July.

More scans will be done on Warne's hand in the next few days, but the Hampshire physio Paddy Farhad clearly said, "Warne is expected to be ruled out for three to five weeks."
