Indian Probables Announced

Monday, June 21 2004

The BCCI announced the probables list for the upcoming Asia Cup One Day International Tournament which is to be held in Sri Lanka in the coming weeks. Harbhajan Singh makes a comeback from serious injury, that kept him sidelined for over six months.

The talented young off spinner, who has been plagued by finger injuries has been training hard and has been developing a new 'magic ball' to add to his arsenal. There were no other real suprises in the squad.

Many thought that India 'A' stars such as opening batsman, Gautam Gambhir and fast bowling sensation, Munaf Patel would be included, but at this current stage the selectors have gone for the same successful combination.

Apart from the players who selected themselves, medium fast bowler Amit Bhandari and left handed batsman Rohan Gavaskar were also named amongst the probables. Hemang Badani and Mohammad Kaif also return for the ODI tournament.

Off Spinning All Rounder, Ramesh Powar also returns after some decent showings in Pakistan, and Parthiv Patel a specialist wicketkeeper was also named in the squad.

The impressive showings of Irfan Pathan and Lakshmipathy Balaji in Pakistan guaranteed their slots into the probables list, alongside familiar faces in Ajit Agarkar, Ashish Nehra and Anil Kumble.

The on again, off again fitness of the returning Zaheer Khan will be tested, as Zaheer has battled with injuries for most part of his career.

The Indian team definitely look the strongest going into the Asia Cup, where they will be in the same pool as the UAE and Sri Lanka.
