Monday, June 14 2004Totesport Division 1
13th June 2004
Northants 266 for 6 (Roberts 88, Afzaal 69, Malik 3 for 28)
Gloucestershire 157 (Swann 4 for 21, Brown 3 for 27)
Northants total was based on a 104-run partnership between Roberts and Afzaal, followed by several brisk cameos from the lower order. Gloucestershire never recovered from losing two quick wickets to Louw and spin-twins Swann & Brown were able to clean up as Northants ran out winners by 109 runs.
Warwickshire 310 for 5 (Knight 92, Wagh 69, Anderson 2 for 40)
Lancashire 198 (Horton 42)
Lancashire’s mid-season decline continued at Edgbaston as they fell 112 runs short of Warwickshire’s huge score. Knight & Wagh set things up with a 147-run partnership and the middle-order all made rapid contributions. Lancashire never got going as Warwickshire’s accurate attack shared the wickets – Carter, Bell, Hogg & Wagh each claimed two, Brown & Richardson one apiece.
Surrey 230 for 8 (Shahid 61)
Kent 234 for 5 (Walker 51*, Louden 51, Carberry 50, Fulton 48)
Surrey’s eventually competitive total was largely due to Shahid’s 55-ball 61, which rescued the innings after they had slumped to 141 for 6. Trott, Symonds & Tredwell each claimed two wickets. Despite losing Key & Symonds before reaching 20, Kent passed Surrey’s score with an over to spare with solid contributions from Walker, Louden, Carberry and Fulton.
