Bond doubtful for second Test
Thursday, May 27 2004New Zealand has suffered a set back ahead of the second Test, that of Shane Bond being declared as still unfit with a sore back, and in an almost certain danger of missing the match.
Bond missed the first Test, which England won by seven wickets, because of soreness as a result of two back-to-back warm-up matches before the Test.
He underwent a bone scan yesterday to check his fitness ahead of New Zealand's next warm-up match against Leicestershire starting Friday. Though the result from the scan won't be out until tomorrow, Bond has been ruled out of the game because of the trouble, which will also mean that he won't have enough match practice ahead of the second Test.
As a result, even if the bone scan result is positive Bond is most likely to return to the Kiwis side only in the third Test.
Meanwhile,New Zealand did have some good news as all-rounder Jacob Oram who went down with a suspect side strain, is expected to recover from the minor injury, in time for the second Test.
