Sunday, May 2 2004County Chamionship Division 1
1st May 2004
The heavy rain over the first three days ensured that all three Division 1 games were drawn, although at least there was play in all of them on Day 4.
Surrey 403 for 7 declared
Northants 64 for 2
After spending two days on 90*, Scott Newman duly completed his century and eventually made 131. Adam Hollioake (73) and Azhar Mahmoud (65) made half centuries to ensure that Surrey gained the batting points. Johann Louw and Steffan Jones each claimed three wickets.
Gloucestershire 400 for 7 declared
Warwickshire 139 for 6
Dougie Brown took 3 for 9 in one spell to finish with figures of 4 for 75, as Warwickshire had a better time with the ball than on Day 3. However, they batted feebly, apart from Jonathan Trott who made a bright 76. Jon Lewis was the best bowler with 3 for 21.
Worcestershire 46 for 2 against Sussex
The flood water eventually subsided to allow a brief passage of play.
