C&G3: Rain - and Francis - dominate

Derby: Derbyshire v Somerset
Francis takes eight after Cox ton

Somerset progressed into the fourth round after Jamie Cox hit 131, sharing two century stands with Michael Burns (59) and Aaron Laraman (50*) as they posted 290 off their 50 overs.

The Derby reply was coasting at 193-2, with Hasan Adnan making 78 and Chris Rogers 93, before Simon Francis struck - repeatedly - taking incredible career-best figures of 8-66 to bowl out the hosts 14 short.

Somerset 290-6
J Cox 131, G Welch 3-38
Derbyshire 276
CJL Rogers 93, SRG Francis 8-66

Stone: Staffordshire v Lancashire
A determined effort from Pakistani Imran Tahir was not enough for Staffs to dispose of Lancashire at Lichfield road. No Lancs batsman passed 42 as Tahir took 3-31 to reduced them to 232.

The heart was taken out of the Staffs reply early, Peter Martin's miserly spell reducing them to 137-7 before Tahir bludgeoned 41 off 18 balls including five sixes to keep the final deficit to 20 runs.

Alderley Edge: Cheshire v Hampshire
Cheshire reduced Hampshire to 65-5 at one stage before fifties from Will Kendall and Dmitri Mascarenhas and a violent 10-ball 38* from Chris Tremlett set 274 to win.

Cheshire didn't get close, and the final margin of 89 runs was only thanks to Shane Warne using all ten outfield players as bowlers after the hosts had slipped to 54-6

Amstelveen: Holland v Gloucestershire
A 139-run third-wicket stand between Matt Windows (62) and Philip Weston (106) set Gloucester on their way to disposing Holland, who fell 72 runs short of the Gladiators' 264, after Mark Alleyne (4-33) made short work of their middle order, despite 66 for the eighth wicket between Edgar Schiferli and Aussie Matthew Mott.

Edinburgh: Scotland v Essex
Nasser Hussain and Will Jefferson added 163 for the second wicket as Scotland were comfortably beaten at Raeburn Place. The Saltaires fell 45 runs short of Essex' 272, despite Ryan Watson's 76 and Sridharan Sriram's 56. Danish Kaneria took 3-30 for the First Class side.

Lincoln Lindum: Lincolnshire v Glamorgan
A rapid 143 from Robert Croft put MCCA Champions Lincolnshire to the sword at the Lindum Ground, Elliot Wilson going for 85 off his 10 overs. Lincs didn't disgrace themselves in the chase, however, with ex-Notts batsman Guy Welton making 60, Aussie Shane Deitz 56 and Grimsby's wicketkeeper Olly Burford a brisk 34* in 230-6.

Following games to be completed tomorrow

Chester-le-Street: Durham v Sussex

Three wickets each from Andre Botha and Andrew White kept Sussex down to 261, after a belligerent 67 from Ali Brown had threatened to lead to a far higher target.

Lamphey: MC Wales v Middlesex
Jamie Dalrymple's maiden List A century - off 74 balls, with six fours and four sixes - rescued Middlesex from a spot of bother at 124-4 after AC Smith had taken 2 wickets.
