Rain ruins Black Cap opener
Thursday, May 6 2004With the first 2 days washed out, there was little chance of a result in the opening First Class match of the New Zealand tour.
Although both sides forfeited an innings, a third day of rain restricted play to just over 35 overs.
In the end, only Nathan Astle showed anything, as he scored an unbeaten 64 on his return to action from a lay-off. For the record the other batsmen were Mark Richardson who made 39, Scott Styris who hit a breezy 22 from 26 balls and Michael Papps who had the misfortune to fall first ball.
New Zealanders 128-3
Astle 64*
