Powell leads one-sided mayhem
Thursday, April 29 2004The rain at the Parks meant only 2 overs were possible, but amazingly Cardiff seemed the only place in the country where a full day was possible, and a high scoring day it was.
Glamorgan vs. Cardiff UCCE
For a brief half an hour it appeared that we actually had a contest here as opening bowler Stuart Collier removed both of the county openers within the first 19 runs.
That was as good as it got, as Glamorgan went along at about a run a ball for the rest of the day.
The star was Michael Powell, who blasted 36 fours and a six in his 201 from only 143 balls before he decided he'd had enough and retired.
With a relatively sedate century from David Hemp and more brutal efforts from veterans Matthew Maynard (80 from 63 balls) and Robert Croft (77 from 97 balls), the county were still batting at the close.
For the students, 2 bowlers both took 4 wickets. The aforementioned Collier took his in 21.5 overs, and even managed to concede under 5 an over. Glamorgan 2nd XI spinner Daniel Nolan was less fortunate, as he was hit for 234 runs in just 37 overs.
GLAMORGAN 586-9 (Powell 201, Hemp 138, Maynard 80, Croft 77, Collier 4-107, Nolan 4-234)
Oxford UCCE vs. Kent
The county faced just 2 overs here, but it was enough time for Joseph Denly to record a Golden Duck.
KENT 9-1 (Carberry 9*, Suman 1-3)
