Denton to Victoria

Thursday, April 29 2004

Pace bowler Gerard Denton - long regarded as one of the sharpest bowlers on the domestic circuit - has announced to Tasmanian cricket his intentions to follow up his career interstate with Pura Cup champions Victoria.

The 28-year-old formed an integral part in the Tigers attack in their third placed finish in season 2003/04. A veteran of 32 first-class matches and 85 wickets, the lure of joining Australia's champion state as well as further employment opportunities proved too great to ignore.

Denton will benefit from the juicier wickets seen in Melbourne and joins a strong pace battery that boasts Mick Lewis, Allan Wise, Matthew Inness, Shane Harwood and former Western Warrior John Taylor.

In other Victorian news, opening batsman Matthew Mott has left the state to take up a job as second XI coach in New South Wales with the option of playing for his 3rd state should he be selected.
