Rebels agree to mediation
Saturday, May 8 2004Zimbabwe's rebel cricketers have agreed to mediation, and made themselves available for national selection again.
This break-through was made yesterday morning when the players had a meeting with an independent arbitrator Much Musunda, who advised them to agree to the mediation offer from the ZCU, to get things rolling first.
One of the players told Reuters yesterday, "It's going to go through mediation. We met this morning and it was made clear to us that legally this should go through a mediation process first and hopefully that will lead to arbitration. That is where we're heading for now and the players will make themselves available now."
The stand-off between the players and the board had reached the boiling point, where the players threatened to quit by yesterday evening if their demand of independent arbitration was not to be met with. However, the meeting has cooled things for the time being.
