ECB Make Rule Changes

Monday, April 5 2004

The ECB have announced some small changes to the rules for the upcoming season that could have a big impact on the final tables at the end of the season.

Punishments

The ECB have decided to increase the punishment of teams that bowl slow over-rates in the County Championship by doubling the amounts of points that are deducted from 0.25 to 0.50.

Times Are Changing

After the huge success of the inaugural 20/20 competition the ECB have decided to transfer the time for a batsman to reach the crease across to the longer form of the One Day game, players will now just have 90 seconds to get out into the middle.

Look On The Bright Side

Ok so the first two rule changes have just ruined your season well if your team is Sussex or Essex (or any other team that is getting permanent floodlights) then brighter times are ahead as the ECB have decided that these teams may make use of their floodlights in all of the seasons competitions to extent play or prevent bad light from stopping play. To do this the umpires and both captains must agree on the decision to turn the lights on.
