Windies name ODI squad
Wednesday, April 14 2004Two uncapped players make their way into the West Indies One Day International squad which takes on England in seven games starting on Sunday 18th April. Allrounder Dwayne Bravo of Trinidad and Tobago and Ian Bradshaw of Barbados are the new names.
Bravo had an impressive Carib Beer Cup this year, when he scored 481 runs (37.00 average) and took 28 wickets (13.46 average) in 7 games. He is acclaimed around the region as an outstanding fielder and fast improving right-handed batsman and seam bowler. Bravo has only played 15 List-A OD matches to date, with limited success with the bat and good success with the ball.
Bradshaw was selected in the ODI squad which toured South Africa, but did not feature in any of the games. He continues his duties following yet another solid regional series, taking 19 wickets at 16.84 apiece with his left-arm seam. Bradshaw also scored 156 runs at an average of 52. In List-A OD matches he averages 20.35 with the ball and 32.11 with the bat.
Returning to the West Indies limited overs game are Sylvester Joseph and Ryan Hinds. Right-handed attacking batsman, Joseph played 4 ODI's in 2000 for an average of 14.25 per innings. Ryan Hinds will add an allround aspect to the team with his left-arm spin in addition to his left-handed batting.
The notable members missing out on selection are Fidel Edwards, Tino Best and Pedro Collins, all of whom have featured prominently in the Test series thus far. Veteran Mervyn Dillon and Under-19 bowler Ravi Rampaul come in as a seeming move to specialize the ODI squad.
