ICC urges ZCU to resolve matters
Thursday, April 15 2004The president of the International Cricket Council (ICC), Ehsan Mani, has urged the Zimbabwe Cricket Union (ZCU) to resolve internal matters and controversies as soon as possible.
In a statement issued yesterday (Tuesday), Mani said, "I urge all parties involved to act in the best interests of the game. The ICC is obviously concerned about the current dispute but would not seek to intervene in this type of domestic issue as it is internal to the Zimbabwe cricket community."
Zimbabwe's cricket is going through their worst times ever, as captain Heath Streak was sacked after a dispute which involved demands from his side which were not met with.
Following Streak's dismissal, several other white players, who took a stance of rebellion for Streak's departures, have also been sacked by the board.
Mani said that he would discuss the issue "first hand" with ZCU president Peter Chingoka when he travels to England later this month.
However, Mani said that the ICC would not intervene directly with the resolving of the controversy.
