ECB to meet ministers
Thursday, April 15 2004The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced that it will first meet with government ministers before making an official announcement on the clearance of the country's tour to Zimbabwe.
ECB chief executive Tim Lamb confirmed talks would take place with Foreign Secretary Jack Straw and Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell in early May, before making a final decision on whether to give the tour a nod.
ECB officials will also meet a three-man Zimbabwe Cricket Union delegation at Lord's on April 20.
ECB announced this weekend that the tour would most likely go ahead, after fears of facing a possible £1m fine and ban from the International Cricket Council if they cancel the tour.
