Thursday, April 15 2004

Sri Lanka Cricket has appointed a panel of assorted cricket specialists - former players, umpires, selectors, and a bowling coach - to review the findings of a report on Muttiah Muralitharan's bowling action. The committee would then report their findings to the International Cricket Council (ICC).

The board president, Mohan de Silva said, "The report has come. Our bowling review committee should study the report first and make their observations to the ICC."

The off-spinner recently underwent tests in Australia, supervised by Bruce Elliott, a biomechanist at the University of Western Australia, after his action was quetioned by ICC match referee Chris Broad, after the third Test between Sri Lanka and Australia.

The panel includes - Ranjan Madugalle, Roshan Mahanama, Champaka Ramanayake, Kandiah Francis, Lalith Kaluperuma and Roger Wijesuriya.

Murali has taken 513 Test wickets, and is on the brink of breaking Courtney Walsh's record of highest wickets in Tests, for Sri Lanka tours Zimbabwe later this month.
