Notts sign Martyn

Wednesday, February 11 2004

English county Nottinghamshire have signed Australian middle-order batsman Damien Martyn as their second overseas player for the forthcoming season.

The county however have already taken a precaution of picking a possible substitue if and when Martyn is away on international duty. Victorian batsman David Hussey has verbally agreed to sign a contract with the county, as Martyn's replacement, if required.

Martyn appeared briefly in the last English season for Yorkshire. He scored an amazing 238 runs off 159 balls against Gloucestershire, which will surely be remebered as one of the best innings of the season.

Martyn had recently suffered from an extended form slump, but seemed to get back into his classy, fluent touch during the 2nd Final of the VB series against India, which Australia won.
