McGrath Returning to the Field
Tuesday, February 17 2004Australian pace spearhead Glenn McGrath will resume his playing career this weekend in the Sydney Grade competition.
McGrath will play for his grade side, Sutherland, against Fairfield-Liverpool at the Rosedale Oval in Sydney.
His return to grade cricket signals a massive step in the rehabilitation process that has captured headlines all summer.
Originally thought to be missing the first two Tests of the Indian series, McGrath has not been sighted on the field since Australia took on Bangladesh mid-year.
Since his injury the Australian attack has struggled to mount constant pressure on oppositions sides, culminating in a drawn series against India at home.
It is unlikely that he will play in tomorrow's Pura Cup match against South Australia at the SCG having not been named in the squad today.
While hopeful of selection, McGrath conceded he will not be going to Sri Lanka with the Test squad following a discussion with Test selectors this evening.
He looks set to play out the remainder of the summer for New South Wales before touring Zimbabwe with the national side in April.
