Day 2: New Zealand v South Africa
Thursday, March 11 2004South Africa started the day at 279/4 with Gary Kirsten 31 not out and Paul Adams four not out.
It didn't take long for New Zealand to get their first break through of the morning with Jacob Oram getting one between bat and pad and knocking over Paul Adams for seven.
This brought Neil McKenzie to the crease but he didn't last long in being trapped in front by Vettori for 10 and at 305/6 New Zealand were coming right back into the game.
From this point on though Boucher, Pollock and Ntini provided good support to Gary Kirsten and good partnerships were built in the lower order.
South Africa were finally dismissed for 459 with Gary Kirsten being the highlight in scoring a superb 137.
Daniel Vettori had the best figures of the kiwi bowlers taking 4/158 from 39.2 overs. Jacob Oram and Scott Styris were the other wicket takers having two a piece while there were two run outs.
New Zealand continued through to the close of play being 102/2 with Michael Papps on debut being 50 not out and Scott Styris 16 not out. Mark Richardson and Stephen Fleming were the men out for four and 27 respectively.
