Kirsten and Adams back for 2nd Test

Tuesday, December 23 2003

Gary Kirsten and Paul Adams have been recalled to the South African squad for the second and third Tests against the West Indies. Kirsten missed the first Test due to the birth of his son whilst Peterson was opted for ahead of Adams.

Peterson had a poor bowling match in the first Test, getting smashed for a record 28 runs in an over by Brian Lara.

"As far as Robbie Peterson is concerned, he is an exciting young talent on a steep learning curve who came up against one of the worlds great batsmen in top form at the Wanderers," coach Omar Henry regarding the incident.

Kirsten's inclusion means that a batsman of Rudolph, McKenzie and van Jaarsveld will likely miss out.

The second Test starts on Boxing Day (December 26th) at Durban.

The squad is as follows:
Graeme Smith (C), Mark Boucher (WK), Paul Adams, Herschelle Gibbs, Andrew Hall, Jacques Kallis, Gary Kirsten, Neil McKenzie, Makhaya Ntini, Andre Nel, Shaun Pollock, Jacques Rudolph, Martin van Jaarsveld.
