Sunday, February 22 2004Due a purposeful innings of 98 from Mohammad Ashraful, Bangladesh fought on to 131 runs short of Zimbabwe's first innings total.
After losing their first four wickets for 77 runs, Ashraful added 85 with Rajin Saleh (49) and 97 with Mushfiqur Rahman (44) until he was bowled 2 runs short of his second Test hundred.
Heath Streak was, as expected, among the wickets and grabbed 4 for 44 by the close off an economical 26.2 overs. He got the first breakthrough of the day, the wicket of nightwatchman Tapash Baisya for 4. New Bangladesh captain, Habibul Bashar lasted only 2 balls before he edged Blignaut behind for a duck.
Overall Blignaut had a tough day though, and ended with figures of 18-3-70-1. However, his team mate Hondo was more enterprising with 3/43 from his 15 overs.
At stumps Manjural Islam Rana was unbeaten on 30 and Manjural Islam on 3. Bangladesh will resume tomorrow at 313/9, with two more days left in this the first Test.
