Carib Beer Cup 2004
Semi-Finals

Guyana vs. Barbados at the Kensington Oval.

Guyana fought back from a position of 29/3 to 248/7 at the close. Collins took two early wickets and finished with 4 for 72, but it was the Guyana captain and vice-captain who stole the show. Sarwan, in brilliant form since a good tour of South Africa, scored his second consecutive century of the tournament with a fine 121 from 205 balls, which included 13 fours.

Batting well also was Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who score 81 off 192 balls, and the two batsmen added a Guyana record 203-run stand for the fourth wicket. However, the recalled Ian Bradshaw eventually dismissed both batsmen in successive overs after tea. Collins then accounted for Deonarine (2) and McGarrell (4) before the close. At stumps Damodar Daesrath was on 9 and Mahendra Nagamootoo yet to score.

West Indies pacemen, Corey Collymore (13-2-56-1) and Fidel Edwards (14-3-50-0) did not have the best of days.

Guyana 1st innings 248/7 (90 overs)
(Ramnaresh Sarwan 121, Shivnarine Chanderpaul 81)
(Pedro Collins 4/72, Ian Bradshaw 2/38)

Windward Islands vs. Jamaica at Alpart Sports Club

Like Guyana, Jamaica was made to fight back after a collapse of wickets. This one saw them lose wickets at regular intervals, with only Dave Bernard Jr. carrying on with his start. Bernard stroked a lovely unbeaten 69 to take his team to 215/6 at stumps.

Trouble started early for the home side, as form batsman Chris Gayle was out to the second ball of the match, pushing at and edging a Thomas delivery. Donavan Pagon (45) now joined Maurice Kepple (39) in an 88-run second wicket stand of steady progression. Then three wickets fell for just 2 runs as Shillingford grabbed his first two of the innings.

When Hibbert was the fifth man out, the score sat at 132 and Baugh was made to rebuild with Bernard. The former looked chancy in doing so however, and was bowled off a noball then dropped at second slip off an attempted cut shot. He only made 11 though, when he run out. Still, Bernard batted on and overall faced 129 balls on the day, whilst hitting 8 fours and a six. Veteran Perry batted with Bernard to the close and is on 22 not out in the midst of the 45-run stand between the two batsmen.

Jamaica 1st innings 215/6 (91 overs)
(Dave Bernard Jr. 69*, Donavan Pagon 43, Maurice Kepple 39)
(Shane Shillingford 2/48)
