No tests for Karachi and Peshawar

Sunday, February 22 2004

The Indian tour to Pakistan will start on the 10th of March. The itinerary has been announced and is as follows :-

Limited overs internationals -

March 13, 2004 - Karachi
March 16, 2004 - Rawalpindi
March 19, 2004 - Peshawar
March 21, 2004 - Lahore
March 24, 2004 - Lahore

Tests -

Multan (March 28 - April 1, 2004)
Lahore (April 5-9, 2004)
Rawalpindi (April 13-17, 2004)

"The team will leave for Lahore on March 10 and on March 11, there will be a one day warm up game. Then the five ODIs will begin," Dalmiya announced today.

Karachi and Peshawar will not get test matches and will have to do with the limited over matches. Shahryar Khan said it would be great if the two venues got tests. He added further that the venues had not hosted even one dayers for a long time and thus the international matches are good.

The Indian team will return by April 18 and the tour is expected to be over before the next general elections. The selection for the team will take place on March 3.

The one dayers are to be held before the tests though the tour was planned the other way around earlier.

The visas are to be relaxed during the 40 day tour said Dalmiya. "Both the governments are working out details to make the visa procedures easier for the fans wishing to visit Pakistan," he said.

The Indian team will be accompanied by Indian security personnel. Earlier the Indian Home Minister had announced security would be the prime responsibility of the Pakistanis. The ministry has apparently done a turn around on this now.
