Guyana axes Nagamootoo

Guyana, pointless after three rounds of the 2004 Carib Beer Cup, will enter their fourth round match against the Leeward Islands without the services of some experienced names. Mahendra Nagamootoo, Lennox Cush, Azeemul Haniff and Andre Percival have all been axed from the 13-man squad named yesterday.
The sacking of Nagamootoo and Lennox Cush has been reported to be due to a fight which broke out on the team bus, which also resulted in the fines of US$200 for both players. The engagement is also said to have involved Mahendra's brother, Vishal Nagamootoo, who remains in the squad.
In place of the four, Hemnarine Harrinarine, Damodar Dasrat, Zaheer Mohamed and 16-year-old Leon Johnson were drafted into the squad. Middle order batsman, Travis Dowlin has been appointed vice-captain in place of Nagamootoo.
