Sussex re-sign Goodwin
Tuesday, February 3 2004Former Zimbabwean, and current Western Australian batsman, Murray Goodwin has re-signed with Sussex as an overseas player for one year only, to play in the 2004 English county season.
Goodwin was originally looking for a longer deal. However, the county was unwilling to offer that, since they already have a second overseas player, Pakistani Mushtaq Ahmed under contract.
Because of Goodwin's ask for a longer duration contract, the county was looking for a possible replacement, and nearly signed with South African Gary Kirsten, before he had to pull out due to "business reasons."
Goodwin, 31, scored as many as 1496 runs last season for Sussex, thus being instrumental in a magical run for the county in the County Championship. He also scored the highest score ever by a Sussex batsman - 335 not out - in the final match of the season.
