White named new Yorkshire skipper

Thursday, January 29 2004

Yorkshire have announced that former England allrounder Craig White , will be their captain for the 2004 season.

White (34) , who played 30 tests & 51 One day internationals for England , will take over from Anthony McGrath , who did not live up to expectations last season as Yorkshire failed to win promotion to division 1.

White had an injury plagued 2003 & has not played for his country since the world cup nearly 12 months ago , thus it seems his international carear is almost certainly over & he will now be able to concentrate on winning promotion.

The former Victorian under 19’s player was preferred as skipper , over brother-in-law Darren Lehmann , opening batsman Matthew Wood & former England off spinner Richard Dawson.
