Wellinton won the first match of the State Shield - New Zealand's domestic one-day competiton. Wellington beat Northern Districts by 3 wickets at Westpac Park at Hamilton.
Grant Robinson topped scored with an unbeaten 77. Mark Gillespie of Wellington took 3-39 off 8 overs Northern Districts made 228-9. Wellinton started off well with a partnership off 66 between Chris Nevin and Grant Donaldson.
Wellington were reduced to 206-7 before Mayo Pasupati hit an unbeaten 33 off 22 balls as Wellington won with 5 balls to spare.

Wellington 230-7 (Parlane 54, Nevin 50, Jones 48; B.Marton 2-24)
The loss of regular wickets halted Wellington's progress and kept Northern Districts in the game.
