Ryan Hinds replaces Banks
Thursday, December 11 2003Ryan Hinds is the latest player to be called to the West Indies Test squad, as a replacement for injured Omari Banks. Hinds joins Dave Mohammed and Dwayne Smith as an injury replacement in South Africa but, unlike Mohammed and Smith, Hinds has played for the West Indies at international level before.
Indeed, the left-handed allrounder has played four (4) Tests, debuting impressively with 62 in his first innings, but overall having scored just 162 runs at 23.14 per innings. He has also played eleven (11) ODI's, getting 93 runs (18.60) and 6 wickets (52.33) in his efforts.
Hinds was supposed to go to South Africa earlier this year, when he was selected as an injury replacement for Marlon Samuels. Samuels, however, was passed fit at the last minute and reclaimed his place in the squad. As such, Hinds was dropped again and has really struggled since.
Still, he is a talented player who, if he can produce the form he did on his rise through the youth ranks of West Indies cricket, can be a very good allrounder.
Hinds is not expected to arrive in time for selection in the first Test match.
