Sanford instead of R. Hinds

Thursday, December 11 2003

The West Indies selectors continued their shocking thought pattern today when they announced that Adam Sanford will be replacing Omari Banks in the Test squad currently in South Africa. Sanford will tour instead of previously though Ryan Hinds.

Sources claimed that Ryan Hinds, Ryan Hurley and Gareth Breese were short-listed to replace the injured Banks, which makes today's announcement totally unexpected. Jamaican pace bowler, Daren Powell, who is currently playing domestic cricket in South Africa also seemed more in the minds of the selectors.

Sanford, the first indigenous Carib to play for the West Indies senior team, last represented the region in 2002 against India and New Zealand. To date the Dominican fast-medium bowler has taken 20 wickets in 7 Tests at 39.70 apiece.

In the 2002/03 Carib Beer Cup, Sanford captured 28 wickets (26.71 avge) in 7 games for the Leeward Islands including a haul of 6/43.

The first Test starts on Friday 12th December at Johannesburg.
