Pakistan win in a boilover.
Wednesday, March 17 2004Sachin Tendulkar made history in the second ODI between Pakistan and India at Rawalpindi. Tendulkar passed 13,00 ODI runs and his 37th ODI hundred, but it was to no avail as Pakistan won by 12 runs.
Batting first, Shahid Afridi played the only why he knows how - that is plenty of entertainment and plenty of sixes and fours. Afridi and along with Yasir Hameed set the world ablaze putting on 138 inside 19 overs before Afridi was bowled by Yuvraj Singh for 80 off 58 balls.
Yousuf Youhana continued on with the scoring rate scoring 24 off 26 balls before being bowled again by Yuvraj with the score on 191 on the last ball off the 29th over. Hammed was the slower off all the the previous two batsmen making 86 off 108 before being run out by Ashish Nehra with the score on 225 after 35 overs.
Inzaman ul-Haq and Younis Khan continued on with the flow of runs and boundries, before Nehra bowled Inzaman for 29 with the score on 249 after 39.1 overs. It was a double breakthrough next ball with wicketkeeper Moin Khan trapped in front first ball putting Nehra on a hat-trick. Nehra who is yet to take a hat-trick in ODIs, was again denied by Shoaib Malik.
Malik and Younis Khan put on 35 before Nehra again broke through dismissing Khan for 28 with the score on 284 in the 46th over. Nehra finished with figures of 3-44 off ten overs. Malik played second fiddle as Abdur Razzaq made an unbeaten 31 off 16 balls. Pakistan finished with 329-6 off their 50 overs.
Virdender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar didnt waste time in setting off India's reply. Sehwag and Tendulkar took the score to 56 off 8.1 overs before Shoaib Akhtar bowled Sehwag for 26 off 21 balls. VVS Laxman who missed the first match due to injury was a virtual spectator as Tendulkar continued with his attack.
Mohammad Sami trapped Laxman in front for 4 with India's score the score on 71 inside 12 overs. Some tight bowling restricted Sourav Ganguly's batting making 15 off 38 balls before being stumped off the bowling of Afridi with the score on 140.
Dravid joined Tendulkar at the crease and put on 105 for the 4th wicket before Tendulkar was caught by Razzaq off the bowling of Malik for 141 in the 39th over. In that time Tendulkar scored his 37th ODI hundred and 13,000 ODI runs. Dravid was the next to go for 36 with the score on 260 in the 42nd over.
Mohammad Kaif (7), Zaheer Khan (0) all came and went and India's chances off a remarkable victory dropped. Ramesh Powar made an unbeaten 18 off 11 balls but wasnt enough for India to win as they were bowled out for 317 with 8 balls left in the match. Shoaib and Sami each finished with three wickets apiece. Tendulkar was named man of the match.
