South Africa on top after Day 1
Thursday, March 18 2004South Africa have gone through to 231/2 at the close of Day 1 in the 2nd test at Eden Park.
Stephen Fleming won the toss and sent South Africa into bat but during the day the South African batsman casually took to the bowling and closed on top.
Herschelle Gibbs was the first out with the score at 177 for 80 being bowled by Chris Cairns. Graeme Smith fell next ball for 88 being lbw to Chris Martin.
Jacques Rudolph and Jacques Kallis then saw South Africa through to stumps being 14 not out and 39 not out.
