SA win v Sir Paul Getty's XI
Wednesday, June 25 2003The touring South Africans yesterday beat an invitational XI in a friendly held on the late Sir Paul Getty's estate. The Sir Paul Getty's XI consisted of players ranging from South African Martin Van Jaarsveld to Zimbabwean Henry Olonga to former England player, Peter Such.
Upon winning the toss, the South Africans elected to bat first and with Smith (67), Gibbs (52) and Kallis (81) all getting runs, they piled up a challenging total of 276 in their 50 overs. Kallis' innings took 95 balls and he styruck 1 four and 3 sixes. The pick of the bowlers was Peter Such with 2/32 off his 10 and Peiterson (2/59 [10]) and Franks (2/23 [5]) shared the wickets with him. Olonga bowled with notable economy for 0/19 off 5 overs.
In reply, Aussie Chris Rogers (67) and Pieterson (50) played well with Van Jaarsveld (40) also chipping in with runs against his countrymen. The innings ended on 226/9 as Boje (3/35 [10]) and Hall (2/20 [8]) did most of the damage.
