NCL Roundup - Divison 1

Leicestershire and Warwickshire both notched important wins as the emphasis returned to 45 instead of 20 overs for one day only.

Warwickshire vs. Glamorgan

Glamorgan gained first use of the Edgbaston pitch on winning the toss, but a fine all round bowling performance led them to amass only 193 all out in the 44 overs they got in before rain cut into proceedings.

Only David Hemp and Robert Croft made decent scores, with 41 and 42 respectively, before both fell to Dougie Brown, who was the pick of the bunch with 4-37.

With rain between innnings, Duckworth-Lewis decreed that the Bears would need a total of 179 in 39 overs, and when Mike Kasprowicz and Alex Wharf bowled, they top order had major problems, falling to 16-3.

When Dominic Ostler went, it was 44-4, but in came the bowling hero Brown, and he proceeded to hit 49 from just 53 balls. A fightback by the Welshmen meant that wickets kept falling, but after Nick Knight finally fell in the last over for a superb 75, Neil Carter and Keith Piper only needed another 3 runs to win, which they did with 1 ball to spare.

Yorkshire vs. Leicestershire

Brad Hodge was the Leicestershire hero, as he scored 104 from 119 to hold the innings together. With Virender Sehwag, who made 65, he added 126 for the 2nd wicket, before cutting lose as wickets fell to push his side's score to 251-8 in the 45 overs, only Chris Silverwood, with 2-27 impressing with the ball.

In reply, Yorkshire started well. Yuvraj Singh made 50 from 46 balls, and with 30 from Matt Wood at the other end, they made it to 111-2 before a collapse initiated by David Masters saw 5 wickets go down for just 24. Youngster Tim Bresnan hammered 61 from 51 balls, but it was never likely to be enough, and Yorkshire were all out in the last over for 233.

GLAMORGAN 193 a/o (Brown 4-37)
WARWICKSHIRE 179-8 (Knight 75, Kasprowicz 3-20, Wharf 3-27)

LEICESTERSHIRE 251-8 (Hodge 104, Sehwag 65)
YORKSHIRE 233a/o (Bresnan 61, Yuvraj 50, Masters 3-33, DeFreitas 3-33)
