Jadeja To Play Cricket Again

Thursday, May 29 2003

Former Indian ODI star Ajay Jadeja has been cleared by the Delhi High Court of any wrongdoing in the matchfixing scandal which effectively ended his International Career.

Ajay Jadeja, 32, can effectively play for his provincial side, Delhi and be eligibile to play for the National Team on the basis of merit.

This comes as a surprise to many, as just a few days ago, the judging panel denied his appeal to play cricket. The reversal of the decision comes as good news to Ajay Jadeja and his family.

Considered one of the best ODI players India has produced, Jadeja played through the period of 1992-2000, and captained India on many occassions. Jadeja's powerful hitting and great finishes recorded many successful matches for India.

He played 196 ODI matches scoring 5359 runs at an average of 37.47. The only downside to the good news is that Jadeja is on the wrong side of 30, and with extremely talented youngsters coming through the Indian team, his International career is effectively finished.

Although domestic cricket for Delhi, acting in bollywood films, and running a restaurant should keep the former Indian star busy.
