Warwickshire withdraw offer

Warwickshire have withdrawn their offer for New Zealand left arm orthodox spinner, Daniel Vettori.

Vettori had been offered the spot after Anil Kumble turned Warwickshire down. However they couldn't come to terms with New Zealand's number one spinner.

If he had gone to Warwickshire he would have joined Black Caps team mate Shane Bond. Bond already can't join the county side until after the Sri Lankan tour, and Vettori would have been in the same position.

There was much talk of Vettori's back problems being a problem because of the high workload of county cricket. However New Zealand Cricket chief executive Martin Snedden said that they though it was a great oppurtunity for Vettori to play county cricket after a summer where Vettori did very little bowling.

Snedden also thought that the real difficulties Warwickshire were having were around money.

Warwickshire are now thought to be chasing Kenyan leg spinner Collins Obuya. Obuya became a hero for Kenya in the World Cup where he took a stunning 5-24 against Sri Lanka.
