Day 1: Sri Lanka Board vs NZ
Sunday, April 20 2003At the end of the first day of a two day game between the Sri Lanka Board President's XI and New Zealand, New Zealand are in a strong position ending the day at 74/0 in reply to the Board XI's 238 all out.
The only highlights of the Sri Lankan innings was a brillent century by Jayawardene which has put him back in the frame to make the first test squad. He was out for 108 off 137 balls which included 15 fours and 2 sixes.
Kaluwitharana gave good support putting together a well made 55 before he was lbw to Tuffey.
The pick of the New Zealand bowlers were Tuffey and Bond with Tuffey having figures of 5 for 54 off 14.5 overs while Bond took 3 for 52 off 15.
Horne and Richardson then saw New Zealand through to stumps at 74/0 with Horne not out 38 and Richardson not out 26.
