Murali teams up with Sami

Muttiah Muralitharan has arrived in England for his spell of county cricket with Kent. The Sri Lankan spinner, who played for Lancashire in 1999 and 2001, replaces the Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds who is required for international duty. The signing strengthens an already impressive Kent bowling attack, after Pakistani paceman Mohammad Sami was brought in after the Natwest Challenge.

Murali, who will make his debut in the National League match at Scarborough against Yorkshire, is viewed by many as one of the greatest spinners of all time, although much of his early career was clouded by doubts about his action. In 82 Test matches he has taken 459 wickets at an average of 23.55, as well as 342 in one-day internationals.

Kent captain Dave Fulton said he was looking forward to being able to use Murali and Sami together in both forms of the game.
