Draw Bore in Kandy

The second and final Test between Sri Lanka and New Zealand has finished in a second tame draw in Kandy.

New Zealand resumed Day 5 at 1/92, with Mark Richardson unbeaten on 51 and Stephen Fleming 10.

In a disappointing 5th Day display from New Zealand, Richardson feel early on for 59, just 8 added to his overnight tally.

He was caught by wicket-keeper Romesh Kaluwitharana off Prabath Nissanka.

Muttiah Muralidaran then grabbed his second wicket of the innings, dismissing Mathew Sinclair for a duck to end a miserable series and potentially his Test career.

Kumar Dharmasena and Chaminda Vaas then snared the wickets of Stephen Fleming and Scott Styris within the space of 10 overs to leave the Black Caps at 5/136.

First innings top scorer Jacob Oram was then trapped LBW by Muralidaran for 16, as Murali also dismissed Daniel Vettori for 0 in the same over.

Robbie Hart then became the second victim of Vaas when he was caught behind by 12, and when Murali snared his fifth and Vass his third with Wiseman, the Black Caps has been rolled for just 183.

For the Sri Lankans, Muralidaran snared the amazing figures of 5/49 from 39 overs, while Chaminda Vaas took 3/31. Prabath Nissanka and Kumar Dharmasena snared a wicket each.

Sri Lanka the ensured the bore draw in pursuit of 191 from 30 overs, losing only Sanath Jayasuriya for 9 to Shane Bond.

Kumar Sangakkara with 27 and Mahela Jayawardene with 32 both made average-boosting not outs.

In a match where no official award was given, we award Jacob Oram with Player-of-the-Match rights.
