Aberhart Quits as NZ Coach
Tuesday, July 1 2003Denis Aberhart has decided to withdraw himself from the list of appliants applying to be the New Zealand coach for the next four years, up until World Cup 2007.
"I was not guaranteed a further term with New Zealand Cricket and another exciting opportunity presented itself and is likely to be confirmed later in the week," Alberhart said.
Aberhart leaves the role with a good record in both tests and one-dayers. He had six wins, seven draws and just two losses and got New Zealand to No 3 in the test world ratings. The one-day internationals were again a disappointment but results have improved under Alberhart with 23 wins and 25 losses.
The new coach is likely to announced early next week and is expected to be the former New Zealand off spinner John Bracewell who is currently the coach of Gloucestershire.
