Hampshire Hawks vs. Durham Dynamos
(Rose Bowl)
Hampshire won the toss and chose to bat first.

In the only game not to be affected by rain in the 2nd Division, Hampshire recorded a tight victory over Durham of only 7 runs. The century by John Crawley ably backed up by Dimitri Mascarenhas’ 4/44 sealed the victory for Hampshire which pushes them upto 2nd place in the league.

Hampshire 203 / 5 (45 overs) Crawley 102, Katich 34, Pothas 30*, Hunter 2/43

Durham 196 / 8 (45 overs) Peng 44, Lewis 43, Mascarenhas 4/44

Hampshire win by 7 runs

Middlesex Crusaders vs. Sussex Sharks
(Lord’s) Reduced to 39 overs per side.
Sussex won the toss and chose to bat first.

A game slightly affected by rain was won comfortably by Sussex which looked unlikely when Sussex were at one stage 3/3 and then 23/4 but were able to post a respectable score of 161/7 after a partnership of 112 for the fifth wicket between Goodwin and Ambrose. Middlesex were set a score of 182 off 39 overs but fell well short when they were bowled out for 133 with resistance from Strauss (57) but eventually they were finished off by Innes who ended with figures of 5 for 41 which sealed Sussex their first win of 2003 season.

Sussex 161 / 7 (39 overs) Goodwin 81*, Ambrose 44, Razzaq 3/45

Middlesex 133 a/o (32.3 overs) Strauss 57, Innes 5/41

Sussex win by 49 runs (D/L method)

Somerset Sabres vs. Northamptonshire Steelbacks
(Bath) Reduced to 35 overs per side.
Somerset won the toss and chose to bat first.

Another game that was interrupted by rain, top of the league Northants won easily after Somerset were at one stage 35/5 but a partnership between Dutch and Parsons meant Somerset could post 143 all out. Northants were set 131 from 35 overs and they reached their target with 7.3 overs to spare and 7 wickets left with Mike Hussey following up his 264 in this week’s County Championship match with a competent 54 from 68 balls which was backed by Sales who led Northamptonshire to victory and extending their lead at the top.

Somerset 143 a/o (32.3 overs) Dutch 50, Parsons 32, Cawdron 4/31

Northamptonshire 131 / 3 (27.3 overs) Hussey 54, Sales 33*, Blackwell 2/14

Northamptonshire win by 7 wickets (D/L method)

Lancashire Lightning vs. Nottinghamshire Outlaws
(Old Trafford) Reduced to 17 overs per side.
Lancashire won the toss and chose to field first.

A game cut short to just 17 overs per side because of rain after only 3 overs of the Notts innings meant that there was only room for aggressive stroke-play. Gallian and Welton helped Notts to 100/6 off their allotted overs which was changed to 112 from 17 overs (by the Duckworth Lewis method) for Lancashire to chase. They reached their target with 8 balls to spare after a unbroken partnership of 88 between Carl Hooper, who has an impressive day with the ball as well with figures of 4-0-20-1, and Andrew Flintoff who were left unbeaten on 40 and 43 respectively at the end with Flintoff finishing it off with a mighty six.

Nottinghamshire 100 / 6 (17 overs) Gallian 36, Welton 28, Chapple 2/14

Lancashire 114 / 3 (15.3 overs) Hooper 40*, Flintoff 43*, Harris 2/18

Lancashire win by 7 wickets (D/L method)
