Rain frustrates Zimbabweans

Sunday, May 18 2003

After a blank second day, the rain returned to haunt the Zimbabweans on the 3rd day of their final warm up game before the Test Series gets underway.

Just 21 overs and 4 balls were bowled in 102 minutes of play as Sussex continued their fightback of late on the first day, Kevin Innes and Billy Taylor picking up Mark Vermeulen for a new career best of 198 and Doug Marillier for a duck respectively, and although captain Heath Streak hang around for just under an hour, runs were scarce.

Sean Ervine batted well for 39, but with more rain forecast for tomorrow this game is heading tamely towards a draw.

Zimbabwe 374-7 (Vermeulen 198, Flower 64, Taylor 2-64, Hutchison 2-83, Innes 2-57)
