Bond closing in on Record

Wednesday, April 30 2003

New Zealand Pace Bowler Shane Bond is closing in on a National record for becoming the fastest bowler to reach 50 test wickets.

Bond's three wickets in Sri Lanka has taken his tally to 41 wickets in 9 matches(15 innings). Currently the record is held by Daniel Vettori and Frank Cameron who both took 14 tests(25 innings) to get 50 wickets.

Meanwhile Bond just needs one more ODI wicket to reach the one day milestone and at this stage he has played 2 less matches that record holder Geoff Allott.

Bond's opening bowling partner Daryl Tuffey also has something to smile about. The first over dismissal of Marvan Atapattu in the 1st test took his tally of first over test wickets to seven and that goes with the 9 times he has done it in ODI's.
