Knight - 100 and out.

Wednesday, April 30 2003

Last Saturday, Nick Knight announced his retirement from one-day international cricket.

In an interview on Sky Sports, the 33 year-old Warwickshire opener revealed that it was a decision he had not come to lightly, but felt that with the next World Cup four years away, now was the time to call it a day. Knight also revealed that he would be having surgery on a troublesome knee injury this week.

Nick Knight made exactly 100 international appearances for England, scoring 3637 runs at an average of over 40 since his debut against Pakistan in 1996 - a series in which he scored the first two of his five international hundreds. A more than useful, often brilliant close to the wicket fielder, he picked up 44 catches in his ODI career.

Knight joins former skipper Nasser Hussain and Andrew Caddick on the sidelines as England look to blood younger players with the future in mind.
