Day 1: Australia vs UWIVCXI

Stuart MacGill and Chris Gayle have starred for their teams following day one of Australia's tour match against the University of West Indies Vice Chancellors XI in Barbados.

The vice chancellors XI made 290 in their first innings, with the classy Gayle making 129 in the perfect lead-up for his return to the Test arena.

Jason Haynes provided valuable support for Gayle at number 3, making an impressive 58.

For the Australians, leg-spinner Stuart MacGill took 5/40, Brad Hogg 3/94 and the returning Glenn McGrath 2/40 from 11 overs.

Australia then cruised to 0/68 at stumps, with openers Justin Langer and Jimmy Maher both unbeaten on 28.
