Waugh's 115 was his first Test century since that memorable day in January against the English in Sydney.
In the process of compiling the innings, Steve became the second-highest run-scorer in the history of Test match cricket, surpassing Sunil Gavaskar.
Waugh now trails only Allan Border in Test match run scoring feats.
Secondly, Waugh became the first batsman to score 30 Test centuries for Australia, leapfrogging Don Bradman as the man with the most Test centuries in the Baggy Green.
These two significant occurrence's highlight the Bankstown boy's importance to the overall history of Australian cricket and cricketing folk law in general.
Each Test he plays, he is extending his mark of record Test caps.
