Saffies to set target?

Tuesday, July 29 2003

Returning from lunch on the fifth and final day of the first test of the series, South Africa have a healthy 241 lead and 78 overs left in the day. Two overs will be lost if the teams change roles but Graeme Smith looks to be batting and running aggressively enough to suggest he will set a target for England.

Around the 300 mark will more than likely be his own target for a lead, this should give the tourists around 60-65 overs with which to bowl out the English. Smith is in the middle assessing the pitch so he will have the best idea of anyone when exactly to walk away.

An intriguing end may be in store for this weather affected test match.
